The internet graveyard, where great ideas come to die.

About me:
My name is Mike Martin and I am the owner of OceanView Webdesign. I have been active on the Internet since 1997. I was fascinated about this new hype called the WWW and started to learn more about it. I had just finished my business school including Marketing, Public Relations, Business plans, Personnel and Organization, Financial Management, Operational Management and Logistics.
I have been involved into several online design studios and have operated all kinds of websites.

The Graveyard:
Have you ever noticed that if you are looking for a new domain name you will continuously see that the name has been claimed but there is nothing there if you visit the url? There has not been any development on the domain, and it seems that its master has stopped looking after it. What happened? What went wrong? Why is it empty even when these days hosting cost almost nothing and there are free sites web masters can use everywhere??

I will tell you what went wrong. TIME!! Lack of time is the BIGGEST idea killer. Time = money so you can imagine if you have neither of both your great idea is deemed to fail miserably.
Even I who can create and promote his own sites have had his failures. This was not because my designs did not work out but it was just because I had no TIME for promotion. I was working 18 hours a day for my clients. They always come first before my own projects. So there is a lesson in this for you guys. Do not even start a new project if you are not absolutely sure you have time to work on it. It does not matter how good you are or how good your idea is. You have to have time to set up email campaigns’, find strategic partners, connect with your followers, find new affiliates and even find some good traffic deals etc. etc. These things cost time and require your attention every day. If you stop giving it attention for 2 weeks you can see a drop in traffic and income right away. Watch your Google positions like a hawk and make sure you keep analyzing trends and changes in the market.

The internet is a harsh place. So many people lost good money because they did their internet Bizz next to their normal day job. They were hoping they could make the transition one day to work on their own without their boss. This format is a recipe for failure. One or 2 hours a week on your internet business is not enough these days. You will need a solid plan and even better, help from other people. Try to team up with others whenever you can. Make good and solid agreements and do not be afraid to make it official with a legal contract. There are so many people just like yourself out there that have ideas but just need a break (and some luck). Work together and avoid the obvious pitfalls the internet seems to have. If you can spend time on your idea it WILL succeed.
Pro tip: Do not bring all kinds of clowns into your new projects. Work with professionals only. “If you buy peanuts, you get monkeys”. Do not let this happen to you.
What are your thoughts about the internet? People that did not have a proper business plan and started their internet business, good riddance? I am curious to hear your opinions. What kind of advice do you have for youngsters that find a new domain that has failed 3 times already?

Thank you for reading my blog. All the best and if you have comments, questions, ideas or suggestions be free to post them or contact me.
